Things to do as a Family on Valentine’s Day
Top 11 Activities to do as a Family on Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love. It’s a season to spend quality time with those you love and who love you back. Although love is expressed in many forms on Valentine’s Day, we would like to share things to do as a family on Valentine’s Day. Here’s our top 11 Family Valentine’s Day Activities.
Valentine’s Day Arts and Crafts
We had a blast cutting hearts and placing them in plastic baggies with paint for our four-month-old daughter to smush and swipe the paint around. A simple Valentine’s Day craft idea is a heart footprint keepsake. View our baby’s 1st Valentine’s Day crafts here.
Go to a Fondue Restaurant
Enjoy an array of delectable fruit and sweets dipped in gourmet chocolate at a fondue restaurant. At the Melting Pot in Colorado Springs, we enjoyed the hostess setting the chocolate on fire. They served the chocolate fondue with yellow cake, brownies, rice crispy treats, pineapple, bananas, and strawberries.
Share Your Family Love Stories
Tell your children stories of how you and your spouse, parents, grandparents, siblings, and other family members came to fall in love. Share the history of love that has made the family story continue.
Enjoy the Outdoors
If the weather allows, enjoy quality time with your family by going on a walk or hike. This time of year has beautiful sunrises and sunsets. These pictures were taken at Stratton Open Space in Colorado Springs, CO. The hike can be viewed on our YouTube channel here.
Go on a Valentine’s Day Road Trip
This year we decided to take a road trip to the panhandle of Texas. We wanted to escape the cold and have some adventures as a family without driving too far from home in the front range of Colorado. A road trip during Valentine’s Day week provides opportunities to discover great eateries, enjoy viewing historic and nature scenery, and make wonderful memories for this time of year.
Go to a Valentine’s Day Brunch
Share a meal with your loved ones. Many restaurants around Valentine’s Day will have Valentine’s Day themed brunches and food items. One thing our family likes to do is discuss things we all would like to try and we all share different dishes.
Game Night with a Twist
One of our family favorite board games is Ticket to Ride. For Valentine’s Day, make this game extra special by setting this rule: for every route claimed, that player has to say what they love about another player or a found family memory.
Have a Spa Day
Enjoy a spa day either at home with foot and face masks or at a spa or hot spring. This a great way to relax with the family and teaches your children how to decompress and take a day to yourself.
Read a Valentine’s Day Book
Lizzy loves this Disney baby “My First Valentine’s Day” touch and feel board book. You can also read stories of St. Valentine to share with your child the history behind Valentine’s Day.
Book a Sitter
Have family or a sitter watch your child (particularly if you want to expand your family). This is a great day to just take time as a couple. Recreate a day from your past or stay at home and enjoy each other’s company. This is also a great time to have food that you won’t let your children have.
Make Valentine’s Day Treat
We love making cookies and other treats. For Valentine’s Day, we enjoy making treats that incorporate Hugs and Kisses chocolates. One of favorite, simple desserts is chocolate m&m pretzels where you bake either a Kiss or Hug on top of a pretzel for about 6 minutes on 200 degrees F, then place a m&m on top (we use red, pink, and white m&m’s for Valentine’s Day).
